Radiant Heating Services in Cranbury & Central NJ

Radiant floor heating is exactly what it sounds like: heating for the floor. Radiant heating can be air, electric, or water-powered. The most common use is through water heating. In this process, heated water flows through tubes under the flooring in a room. The water in these tubes is controlled with a thermostat and can be adjusted to suit each family’s needs. Radiant floor heating offers a consistently warm floor that is comfortable year-round, making it great for installing in bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchens.

Benefits of Radiant Heating

There are many benefits to using radiant heating, but the main benefit is the ability to keep your floor warm. This is especially important for us New Jersey residents during the wintertime, and for those in homes without carpeting. Radiant floor heating is also great for people who suffer from allergies because there is no furnace fan blowing air around. There is no need for a dehumidifier or a humidifier because the heating is encapsulated in the tubing under the floor.

Radiant floor heating systems also have the ability to consistently heat a home, and can heat whole rooms at the same time. There are no hot or cold spots to worry about.

Installing Radiant Heating Systems

Radiant heat tubing is usually placed into a wet cement or gypsum compound and installed under the subfloor. Tubing is looped back and forth across the floor and held in place with clips. Once all the tubing is placed, a layer of cement or gypsum is applied on top of the tubing. After the cement or gypsum dries, the subfloor is placed on top and then the final flooring option installed. It can be used with tile, hardwood, and even thin carpeting.

Signs Your Radiant Heating Unit Is in Trouble

One of the biggest signs that a technician needs to be called out to inspect your radiant floor heater is if you notice an obvious leak. Other signs include wet spots on the floor, water leaks in the basement, or visible marks like bulges, burns, or cracks in the floor. A professional technician will inspect the flooring and discuss the most appropriate repair options. In a worst case scenario, the floor might have to be taken up and the tubing replaced.
